Keep Japan in Mind - Friday

In times like these, things happen fast and the things that happened a few weeks ago are forgotten. To keep Japan and its citizens struggles in our minds, I had the idea of the "Keep Japan in Mind - Friday". The idea is pretty easy for the next weeks I will post pictures of things that I associate with Japan. I'd love it, when you would join in the fun. Fun being the operating word in this case.

For this week I choose:

Japanese tea. I bought this also before christmas 2010.

Best of luck to all the Japanese citizens, who lost so much on March 11th. You will make it.

My japanese-german dictionary. As I've said last week, I'd like to learn japanese. I bought this dictionary on December 23rd, 2010.

Best of luck to all the Japanese citizens, who lost so much on March 11th. You will make it.

Happy Easter!

Today we spent the afternoon in the Rosengarten (Rose Garden).
It's a very popular park and tree nursery right next to the Isar River.

a brief insight into the Rose Garden:

Relax under an apple tree in blossom...reading a book.
We were encased in an amazing scent!

What do you do at Easter Time?

Chris

EARTHDAY

I like trees and forests. So, since today is EARTHDAY, which is every year on April 22nd, I pledge to donate at least 50€ every year to reforestation projects.

I also enjoy most of my Starbucks beverages in their stores with proper reusable cups. And from now on I will bring my tumbler if I need to take my coffee with me.

I use special power sockets to turn off my entertainment equipment when I don't use it, which is most of the time.

I recycle paper, glass and packaging.

I use my bike or public transport to get around, I don't own a car. (Okay, I admit it, I want to drive a Porsche 911, even though I know that it isn't good for the environment. But since I simply can't afford it yet, I dare say that the environment is profiting from me not owning a car. ;)

I try to buy local foods, when possible and affordable.

What little extra will you do from now on to regain a healthy environment for all of us? And what do you already do?

Natsumi. Well, that's the name I gave this candle, which was a gift from Chris. Thanks again. The candle is standing on my window sill, reminding me everyday of my goal of learning to speak Japanese fluently.

Best of luck to all the Japanese citizens, who lost so much on March 11th. You will make it.

What is better than a green car paint?

A whole meadow on your car!

Even flowers bloom ...

For this week I choose:

Udon noodles. Those are wheat noodles, which are served in a simple broth with different toppings like spring onion, fresh salmon or a special kind of omelette of which I have forgotten the name. (Kenji probably knows.) It's funny that I still have some in my kitchen, since I stopped eating grains months ago. There is a whole movie on Udon, which is quite funny and ten times better than 98% of current Hollywood movies.

Best of luck to all the Japanese citizens, who lost so much on March 11th. You will make it.

Fascinated with - Postcrossing

What is it that you love to find in your mailbox? If you are like me, then a huge smile brightens up your face when you find a postcard in your mailbox. Nowadays what I find most often is either an empty mailbox :( or worse crappy advertising :(((

Luckily, two days ago I found the remedy for this sadness: postcrossing. It's absolutely awesome!
It's an international community of people who send each other postcards. The fun factor is that you neither know who you will send your next cards to until you have drawn their name, nor do you know from whom you will get cards "in return". There are whole school classes participating in this! It's a perfect way to learn geography and history and find penpals all over the world, I guess. (Certainly easier than back in the 1990ies.)

There are a lot of people who collect postcards, stamps or fridge magnets. I don't collect any of them, I am much more interested in the people and their dreams. So in my profile I asked them to write me their "crazy" ideas for a positive future, instead of requesting special kinds of postcards.

What puzzles me is that a lot of the postcrossers seem to dislike handmade cards. Personally I would totally appreciate a handmade card. I mean think about it... There is a person, somewhere on this planet, who sits down and creates something special and unique for another person, that he or she doesn't know yet and will probably never meet. Just to give this other person the pleasure of finding a nice surprise in their mailbox. This is AWESOME.

The first countries I drew were the USA, China, Russia, Finland and the Netherlands. (At the start 5 is the maximum of cards you can send.) I send out my cards (one with my swirls and 4 normal single views of Leipzig) yesterday, average travel time is 15 days, so I might receive my first card by the end of next week or the week after that. Since I really hope that it is from a far away place (like South Korea or Patagonia), I probably have to wait longer. ;) Ahh, the agony of waiting. ;)))

So, are any of you lovely readers postcrossers, too? Or do you collect something? And what are your "crazy" dreams for a positive future?

This is pretty easy. The shower gel fragrance is plum and cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms are commonly associated with Japan. In fact it literally says Sakura blossoms on the bottle, so...
